There is no such thing as a “Relationship with Food”. Food is an inanimate object and you cannot have a relationship with it. What you have is a Relationship with Yourself. Sometimes that relationship has been damaged and you don’t trust yourself around food anymore because you have been cheating on yourself with that brownie ice cream. It felt great last night but in the morning you had to look in the mirror. The hard work is repairing that damage and it can only be done through proving to yourself that you can change. Whether you can change depends on how committed you are. Follow through requires motivation, inspiration, a deep dive into “WHY” you should care for your body.
People gain excessive weight through poor eating habits. Period. It doesn’t matter how much you work out, if you are eating poorly you can’t lose weight. Many times people are not even aware of how calorically dense their food is. People constantly say, “I don’t eat that much!”. But time and again when they consistently log their food intake, after a few weeks, they begin to see just how much extra fat, sugar, and salt they are consuming compared to what they actually need.
Digesting their own misconception is emotionally tough. Feelings of guilt and shame come up. “How could I let myself go like this…?”. This leads to even more shame and guilt and a paralyzing frustration, a helplessness that leads to sadness and even more poor eating.
That’s where we come as a coach. We are here to break the cycle. We can help you make the life changing decision to be healthy for the rest of your life. We help empower you to face the pain, the shame, the guilt, the loss, the blame, the lack of willpower… and reach your goal in spite of those obstacles.
Simple tools like accountability, repeated messages of encouragement and reassurance, and clear documentation of dietary intake along with weekly reviews of both emotional and physical health go a long way to permanent personal transformation.
We set realistic goals, work within your daily schedule, as well as pain and pleasure centers so you don’t feel deprived and hunker down for the long haul, breaking expectations of gimmicky “quick weight loss” methods. There are no unreasonable diet changes, no prolonged fasts, nothing that cannot be done one step at a time, one week at a time, gently, with love.
After all, the ultimate goal is love. Self love. Appreciation and enjoyment of food without guilt or shame. Look in the mirror and smile at what you see.
